The Robots of Dawn

The Robots of Dawn was a wonderfully interesting Asimov novel. It carried the reader through the book with subtle hints towards the question of "Who killed Jander?" When nearing the end of the book, the readers mind is set on the culprit. It's almost guaranteed that Amadiro managed to shut down Jander by questioning him about the creation of humaniform robots. This was only half of the truth. Amadiro did question Jander about his creation, but before he could create his own humaniform robot, something shut down Jander. This something was none other than Giskard.
When Giskard was newer, he was modified by Gladia. She unwittingly gave him the ability to read minds. However, Giskard was still under the influence of the three laws. Unlike Herbie from I, Robot, Giskard avoided contradictions that would cause him to destroy himself. Not only could he read minds, he could also modify human emotions. Eventually he created the zeroth law of robotics. Giskard made it so that Elijah couldn't reveal Giskard's secret. However, he didn't remove the memory. He let Elijah retain his memory because he deserved it.
In my opinion, Giskard was the true main character of many of the books in this series.
